Pond Filtration - How to choose the right Filter for your pond.

Once you've lined and filled your pond, the next step is to choose a filtration system. While it is not uncommon for garden ponds to have no filtration (usually the case for our customers who have wildlife ponds) in this blog we will be focusing on the various filtration systems we sell in store and the benefits and key aspects for each.

1) Pressure Filters

Pressure filters are the most common filtration systems we sell here at Pond Hobby. A pressure filter is a compact filter, very user-friendly and easy to clean. The Oase BioPress , FiltoClear & Pontec PondoPress sets we sell offer a clear water guarantee through the ideal combination of filter, pump and UVC technology for sterilization. The filter can be buried up to the cover and is virtually invisible in the garden. Maintenance is very easy thanks to the patented cleaning function in the cover. If desired, these pressure filters can also transport water to a higher watercourse - this is a unique feature of a pressure filter!

2) Flow Though Filters

These filters are pump fed and use gravity to return clean water to the pond. These will require a pump in the pond that feeds the filter. Water will then simply pass through the filter and return to the pond under gravity. This means the filter outlet must be higher than the point at which you want the water to return, as a result, they are harder to hide and can not be buried like Pressure Filters.

The combination of filter foam and the integrated UVC clarifier ensures excellent filter performance: Various filter sponges ensure optimum mechanical and biological filtration. The Oase BioSmart and Pontec MultiClear sets are very user friendly, these flow-through filters have levers for compressing dirt out of the filter sponges as well as a bottom drain and a rinse connection.

3) In Pond Filters

The most compact all rounder for small (fishless) ponds, or decorative pools or barrels. These small units are also very commonly purchased to supplement a pre-existing filtration system in larger ponds. The compact underwater filter with UVC technology for sterilisation also has the option for various water fountain attachments and an aeration nozzle from the Filtral UVC 3000 onwards. Four different filter materials ensure clear water.

Here in Pond Hobby we stock the Oase Filtral UVC range as well as the Pontec PondoRell.
